Timetable Junior Program Guide

The Junior High Program (Grades 7-9) incorporates the best attributes of western instruction in the delivery of the curriculum. The curriculum focuses on developing language and computer literacy and mathematical understanding while fostering community awareness and a global perspective in each and every student.
Upon successful completion of the Grade 9 program a student will be assigned a credit equivalency value of seven credits, three of which will qualify as compulsory. Transcripts for the last three years, including both the original and an English translation issued by the school are necessary for the assignment of these credits. Some credits obtained at other high schools may also be transferable. Both original and English transcripts issued by the school are necessary to transfer these credits.

CIS recognizes that the active involvement of parents in a child's education is a very important factor in a child being successful. CIS keeps parents informed of their child's progress through a variety of methods such as:
- Report cards sent home directly twice per term (6 times / year)
- Parent teacher interview sessions held twice per term (6 times / year)
- CIS Newsletters for parents and students mailed home once a term (3 times / year)
- Through several PTSA events.

■Message from teachers

In our Junior High School Division, we have developed new initiatives to better serve the needs of our students.  These initiatives include implementing the Ontario Think Literacy program in junior high school courses, and a Personal Growth and Development Program that serves to incorporate Western Association of School and Colleges (W.A.S.C.) mandates.  In addition, we strongly believe that a smooth transition is vital, therefore, junior high school is a crucial period of time for our students. This leads to support in tradition from elementary to junior high school and from junior high to high school.  These transition sessions are designed to better inform students and parents/guardians of school life and academic expectations at each respective level.  Columbia offers you an excellent and supporting learning environment.  We hope that more students will join us and enjoy learning.
